PRELIMINARY INVENTORY

The bulk of the materials date from the 1980s. There is strong subject coverage of the federal budget and, to a lesser extent, House Republican operations and House procedures. Pitts's files are unusually rich in staff memoranda and analysis. They also contain remnants of other staff files, intermingled with Pitt's own.

A caveat is in order for the budget files: dates for folder titles were applied inconsistently, sometimes referring to the fiscal year budget, other times referring to the date of creation of the files. In other words, a researcher looking for information about the FY1982 budget should look in files labeled "Budget 1981" and "Budget 1982."
